Show Us Why Your School is Special
Descriptions and photographs of your school and its programs will be used in a wide variety of ways. Press release templates and other promotional opportunities will be added in the next few weeks to the group pages described above. But, in order for us to publicize your accomplishments, we’re going to need to have you provide us with the raw materials to do that. Log into your school’s profile at www.Titlei.org and:

  • Click “My Files and Links” from the Profile options on the right.
  • Upload a Microsoft Word document of 500 - 1,000 words that describes why your school has been successful - identify programs, partnerships, or anything else that you feel has contributed to the success of your students.
  • In the name field, please enter:  “School Name: Official Description” - replace the words “school name” with the actual name of your school.
  • Next, click on “My Photo Gallery” from the Profile options on the right.
  • Upload as many photos as you would like to share.  Photo files should be close to 1 MB in size to be usable in the anticipated print and multimedia projects -  low resolution cell phone or disposable camera shots won’t provide necessary definition.
  • For each photo that you upload, please enter the caption that you want associated with this photo whenever we use it.
  • The deadline for submitting materials for promotional use is December 18, 2009.

2010 National Title I Conference
This annual event sponsored by the National Title I Association, brings approximately 3,000 Title I professionals together to learn from experts in the field and share best practices. This year the Conference will take place in Washington, D.C., January 21-24 and there are some very big names in government, academia, and research who will be adding to the learning environment.

Conference Registration
Registering for the Conference as a Distinguished School attendee permits your staff members to participate in a variety of special recognition opportunities. To receive these special invitations and items, it is very important that these registration instructions are followed exactly.

  • Follow the instructions for general conference registration on the conference website (www.NationalTitleiConference.com).
When the registration options appear, enter the code DS010 and click the “enter code” button - additional options will be revealed.
  • Select “Distinguished School Registration” as the option - only those registered under this category will be considered official Distinguished School representatives at the event.
  • An optional item “Distinguished School Luncheon” will be available (see details to the right to decide if this is for you).
  • Once your registration is paid, you can make hotel reservations, and the good news is that we’re reserving a block of rooms at the Headquarters hotel for Distinguished School participants.  Enter your same “DS010” code to reveal the block of reserved rooms.  You may also select any other room type that is offered to you.

Distinguished Schools’ Parade of States
The opening General Session of the Conference kicks off with a bang on Thursday, January 21 at 10:00 a.m. with a wonderful parade. Led by a local Title I high school marching band, each honored school contingent will march through the ballroom to the cheers of the assembled crowd. In the past, school groups have dressed in school colors and carried balloons or signs to celebrate the moment.  It’s up to you how you want to represent your school and your state.

To ensure that your group has prime seats, registered Distinguished School participants will be able to enter the ballroom between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. to place reserved seat signs in your choice of locations. Don’t be late, as everyone will need to clear the ballroom by 8:30 for the final security sweep required for our anticipated VIP speaker.  Everyone who will be marching in the parade must be assembled in the designated area outside the ballroom by 9:30 a.m. for final instructions.

Distinguished School Luncheon
On Friday, January 22, all Distinguished School representatives are invited to a special luncheon to honor your achievements. Each school will receive two complimentary tickets (mailed to the principal in early January); others wishing to attend the luncheon can purchase tickets at $50 during the conference registration process. Only individuals registered as a Distinguished School representative (see instructions above) are able to purchase the luncheon tickets.  Tickets must be purchased by December 1, and will not be sold onsite.

Commemorative Photographs
Official group photographs will be taken during the luncheon. They will be used in the book described below, and will be available for download from your National Title I website profile after the conclusion of the Conference. In addition, a room will be available throughout the Conference, complete with risers and backdrop, for any Distinguished School to gather their group for self photos. No photographer will be on duty, but a tripod will be available for those with camera timers.

Memory Book
Approximately six weeks after the Conference, each school principal and State Title I director will receive a book and DVD celebrating your school’s success. It will include the description and photos you provided us earlier, along with numerous photographs taken during the Conference. A multimedia montage of all of the 2009 National Title I Distinguished Schools will also be included on DVD. If after receiving your book, you’d like to provide copies to your school board or other VIPs, you may purchase additional copies of the book online.  Ordering details will be included with your original book.
